Problems networking with vista

Networking problems with Windows Vista.
Before Windows 2000 networking computers was a pain to say the least. XP even spat out a wizard on disk to make things even easier. Now moving on to 2007, you would think that Vista would network all the computers in the house or business, whilst doing a tap dance or making you a coffee or something. No, unfortunately only Bill Gates knows why Microsoft had to make it so difficult. Anyway thats my rant over.

1. The first problem you may face is the network name. Since time began Windows default network name is mshome. In Vista however its default is workgroup
To Change this click on the windows symbol(bottom left), then on control panel.
Find the system icon and click on that.
Look down in the system window 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings' and click on change settings.
Click on the computer name tag, look down and click on change.
You should now be on 'Computer name changes'. Change the workgroup name to 'mshome'.

2. The next problem you may encounter is that you may have Norton installed. The fire wall settings will prohibit communication in or out from your computer.
Go into Norton and click on internet security and then find the personal firewall selection and disable it.

3. In order to access the Vista PC from the other computers. You have to put your user name and password in.

Hope this was helpful.
